Päivi Kukkamäki has a Doctor of Music Degree from Sibelius University 2003. She is a registered Suzuki Voice Teacher Trainer of ESA and SAA. She has also graduated from Sibelius University with the highest degree in singing in 1988. Her teachers have been professor, opera singer Jorma Hynninen and opera singer Raili Kostia. She has also had a voice master course for example with Wagnerian Soprano Birgit Nilsson.

Dr. Kukkamäki is the founder of the Suzuki Voice Program, which she started 1986 in Vantaa Finland. She studied Suzuki-methode in Japan Matsumoto Talent Education Institute 1986 and again 1993. She knew Dr. Shinichi Suzuki 12 years and Mrs. Waltraud Suzuki 14 years. The International Suzuki Association has approved Suzuki Voice Program (early called Suzuki Singing and Singing in the Suzuki Style). Dr. Kukkamäki has formed the ISA Suzuki Voice Committee in 2004.

The Suzuki Voice Program enables a student to start listening to songs during pregnancy and continue singing until adulthood. The students have been in the Suzuki Voice Program for 26 years. Kukkamäki's students are aged 0-30. Her doctoral work at university was "Growing Through Singing". Since the age of three, Kukkamäki sang for nine years in Finnish Television Children's Programs. She is the mother of three boys and one girl. Her daughter is opera singer in Vienna.

Dr. Kukkamäki received the Vantaa Award 2003 for her work promoting children's culture and Vantaa Art scholarship 1993 and 2007. Her group received the Finnish Cultural Foundation scholarship in 2005, 2007 and 2012. The new Finnish children's opera "ROOPE" was performed 2007. Her other productions for children have been "Hänsel und Gretel" opera in German 2002, "The Sound of Music" in English 2003-2004, "El Gato con Botas" in Spanish 2004-2005, "Cavalcade of Musicals" 2005, "Snow White" in English 2008, "Sleeping Beauty 2009-2010, "Christmas story" 2011 and the new Children's Musical "Snow-White and Rose-Red 2012-2015". 

Dr. Kukkamäki has given lectures, workshops and teacher training in 16 counties (Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin-America and USA): in Australia 1991, 1992, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2012, in Argentina 2009, in France 2000, in England 1988, in Spain 2000 and 2016, in Ireland 1995, Iceland 1992, in Italy 1997 and 2006, in Japan 1986, 1989, 1993, 1999 and 2013, in Korea 1993, in Peru 1993 and 2000, in Sweden 1988, in German 1988, in Scotland 1990, in Switzerland 2015 and USA 1990, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2014 and 2016. Mostly her students have traveled with her and demonstrated the Suzuki Voice Program. Teachers from 22 countries have came to Finland for Suzuki Voice Teacher training.
