Volume 3
Author Dr Päivi Kukkamäki
Recording 1993
Volume Three has been designed for ages 7-10. It introduces short songs by well-known composers, history and styles. Volume Three songs are always sung in their original languages when Suzuki Voice students meet and sing together. Although not published in this volume, children may study and sing any of these songs in their native language. These versions can be shared with others at Suzuki events. Some songs have alternative texts for young children. The songs are accompanied by a piano or instrumental group. The goal is to introduce children to classical singing with beautiful tone and vocal technique. The songs in the volume are the basic material. When the child is able to sing them very well they feel successful. This feeling of accomplishment builds the child's self-confidence and encourages them to use their own voice more.
At this stage, the child's vocal skills have been established and reading skills are introduced. Listening is still a key component of the Suzuki Voice Program but attention is also placed on the written music and background of the songs.
The goal of the Suzuki Voice Program is to create a love of singing while enriching children with the skills and ability to sing well. This includes daily singing, natural development of the singing voice, increasing the significance of singing and listening and training clear articulation and verbal skills. The child is encouraged to develop self- confidence and perseverance, concentration and good social skills when working with others.
